Lessons From the Life of Moses: Moses Last Words

Moses Last Words of Praise and Blessing

Moses begins his last words to the people of Israel in Deuteronomy 33:2 by praising God from whom all blessings flow!

Moses describes God as this glorious light that had risen up from Mt Sinai (where they had come from) and dawned over them from Seir, and now shone forth from Mount Paran where they were!

It was as if Moses were proclaiming that God’s great light of truth (His Words) had shone forth and delivered the people from their darkness of slavery and sin and now a new day was dawning and a new beginning was about to take place!

Isn’t that exactly what the light of God’s truth does in the presence of the lives of those who seek to know and love and serve Him!  His light of truth (His Word) serves to deliver His people and it moves them forward giving them a new beginning a fresh start!

And that is exactly what the Nation of Israel was about to embark on a new beginning in which God would lead the way and empower His people while providing and protecting them along the way!

It’s as if Moses himself is declaring the words of Psalm 121:1-3 “I look up to the Mountains~~~ and what do I find? I find the that my help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth! And that is exactly who Moses gives all the glory and praise for all that was done in and through his life and the lives of these he was about to leave!

Not only had the Lord God Himself come, He had come with countless numbers of His holy ones…referring to His angels…and they had come with Him as His act of love for His Holy Ones whom are always in the palms of His hands…revealing His power and might to keep, to guard and to protect! But greater yet is a picture of His great love!

There is nothing more important for people to know than that God loves them and that His favor is upon them. And that’s exactly what Moses communicates to the Nation of Israel as he leaves them with God’s words of blessings over them!

Deuteronomy 33:4 tells us that because of the greatness of God and His love for all, ALL will fall at His feet and receive His instructions! It was and always is through the Word of  God that people come to know and love and serve and obey His commands! It is the same today, it is through the reading and preaching of the Word of God that the Holy Spirit changes lives!

And in verse 5 the Lord God had proven over and over and over again that He indeed was the God of Jeshurun (Righteous ones)…not righteous because of anything they had done…for nothing that had done could change their filthy rags of sin and rebellion…nothing except faith and obedience in the One who had come and rescued them from their bondage of slavery and the sin that had kept them for so long!

Moses had a right assessment of God and he knew the source of his success and therefore he rightfully honored God before the people and before pronouncing blessings upon the people prior to his death!

Like Moses might we also learn that God is rightfully to be praised as the source of our success!

Is it your habit to sing God’s praises, (whether in words, in writing or in song…there are many ways to celebrate His goodness and sing His praises) to rehearse His great faithfulness to you and your family?
