Lessons from 1 John: Christians are Destined for Eternity
Christians are destined for eternity ~ 1 John 5:13-21
He says in verses 13-15, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”
And though it seems kind of odd or out of place, John says that if anyone sees a believer walking in sin, she should pray and God will give them life because Christians are destined for eternity.
Friends, this means instead of gossiping about someone else’s sin, we can instead be used of God as an instrument of restoration and reconciliation.
We must be willing to get on our knees before Him in prayer on their behalf. Now that’s powerful!
- First, in 1 John 5:18, Johns points out that believers can be certain of God’s protection from sin and Satan. God takes away the love of sinning and keeps His children safe. Though Satan may try, he cannot harm them.
- Second, in verse 19 John points to the fact that we can be sure that though the world is under the control of the evil one, we my dear friends are not. And though bad things may happen around us and to us, no believer can be taken out of the palm of His hand. For even in death, a believer passes from here to eternity in His eternal presence forever.
- And lastly, verse 20 tells us that Christians can know Jesus Christ. And we not only know Him, but we are in Him and He is in us!
Believers are safe and secure both now and for eternity through Jesus Christ.
If you believe in Jesus Christ, you can be certain you know God and have eternal life. Nothing can take you out of His ever-loving hand. And nothing can come between you and His great love for you! You are safe and secure in His everlasting arms.
What has caused you to doubt His love for you? Will you ask God to change your wrong thinking and exchange it for His right thinking?
When we believe in Jesus, we do not need to wonder what God thinks when we sin. Jesus provides our forgiveness. We can know God still loves us because He changes our lives and we can see it. Because Jesus did the work and keeps us secure, we can know for sure we have a relationship with God and are guaranteed eternal life with Him.
Christians are destined for eternity! Please comment with the name of a friend or family that you’d like me to pray for with regards to their eternal home.
