Today I’m done! I’ve had it! I’m making an 180° turn around! Have you ever felt like that? I do and that’s why today is the first day of moving forward to becoming the best physical me I can be! My personal health and wellness starts today!

My Personal Health and Wellness Journey

Over the past three years I’ve struggled with my ability to workout after 2 slip and falls, which resulted in a tear in both wrists and my low back. This has inhibited my workout regime and has taken me off the course of my fitness past. I have also matured in age and am considered or could be described as post menopausal and have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and as a result my weight has continued to go up in spite of the medication I’m on.

And though I know it’s not about the number on the scale, the scale is an indication of how far out of whack my body has come. Along with the weight I feel tired and I don’t have the energy that I used to.  In fact even the thought of getting up to exercise is more than I can even muster up on my own most days.

So the other day as I took this matter to the Lord in prayer, He revealed to me that I am using sugar and caffeine to bring me up or at least to try to bring me up. But the thing is, it really doesn’t work. The caffine and sugar may temporaliy bring me up, but then I come crashing down and it’s just like a vicious circle and I’m getting nowhere fast.

So, I am done! I’ve had it! I’m turning the corner 180° and putting my physical, emotional and mental health to the forefront. Oh It sounds so easy doesn’t it? But let me tell you it’s not, it’s a choice. A choice that I am making in spite of what I’m feeling.

So today I stepped onto my treadmill for an hour, where I began to re-read my Weigh Less to Feed More manual. Then I came into the house and told my husband I was on my way to the gym to push some weight and off I went.

As a former weight-loss instructor (Weight Watchers Leader and now a Weigh Less to Feed More Instructor for Revelation Wellness) I know that when I visit the pantry more than the refrigerator I am headed down the wrong road. The pantry consist of mainly processed food, while the refrigarator is where all the fresh foods reside.

So yesterday I cleaned my refrigerator in anticipation of making a change and now today my refrigerator is stocked with fresh veggies, fruits and plenty of water. In fact it was my husband who went to the grocery store as I walked on the treadmill. When he came out to tell me he was going to go to the store to get a few things for dinner and asked if I wanted anything, I gave him my list. He politely reminded me that I threw most of that stuff out just yesterday (you know those unidentifiable fresh foods that have been left way to long in the fresh food bin in the refrigerator). Then he said I’m only gonna buy that stuff if you’re really going to eat it. Really! Who says that? Only your husband of 39 years, who knows how to motivate you to eat your fruit and veggies!

So here we go friends, ready or not I’m on my way to become the best me physcially that I can be from this day forward. I am learning that it is never too late to improve my health and wellness, in both mind and body.

And though it feels like somethings are out of control, I’m going to do something to take control of the things I can do. The first thing is to remember who I am! Who I am in Christ Jesus and not believing the lies of who I am not. The second thing is that though I’m not going to put all my focus on the scale, it does help me to gauge how I am progressing. As does taking my body measurements. Yet my main focus will be on decreasing my body fat, and my overall body measurements, while increasing my cardiovascular and my overall body strength. And lastly, I am not putting a limit of 21 days or 31 days because it’s a lifetime achievement for which I will strive for one day at a time, one meal at a time, one exercise at a time.

We’ve often heard it said, “Sometimes we just need to preach the gospel to ourselves.” And yes I’ve done that more than I can tell you. But today is one those days that not only do I need to preach the gospel to myself, but I also need to understand His purpose and His desire and His design for my life and that’s why I’m going to follow the Weigh Less to Feed More program from Revelation Wellness of which I am not only an instructor, but now also a participant!

  1. Thank you for your honesty. I am inspired by your choice to tell it just as you are experiencing this. It is my hope to become a RevWell instructor in the right season. My focus is on my own family right now but I know it will change in the future.
